1 Peter 1:12 and things angels long to look into.

I.        “There were shepherds living in the fields.”

          A.     (v9) “Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around…”

                  1.      “They were terrified” and they only saw an angel.  Imagine the fear if seeing God.

                  2.      Angels are messengers and warriors.  Like Gabriel and Michael.

          B.     (v10) “Do not be afraid—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all people.”

                  1.      The good news—3000 billion galaxies and God sees us.  Romans 5:6-8

                  2.      For all the people—Not just Jews, or the leaders, or men.  Galatians 3:28

          C.     (v11) “To you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah,”

                  1.      (v12) “This will be a sign for you: you will find a child…lying in a manger.”

                  2.      The angels’ disorienting view—To see the grandeur of God and humiliation

                  3.      The heavenly host—(v14) “Glory to God…and on earth peace among those he favors.”

II.       Among those he favors et al.

          A.     (v6) First angel, “with an eternal gospel to proclaim…to every nation and tribe.”

                  1.      How like the angel message in Luke 2:10: Good news to all people

                  2.      (v7) “Fear God and give him glory, for the hour of his judgment has come”

                  3.      “worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

                  4.      God reigns over creation

          B.     (v8) Second angel, “Fallen is Babylon the great!”

                  1.      Babylon is thought to represent Rome, which is thought to represent evil world powers

                  2.      God reigns over the nations

          C.     (v9) Third angel, “Those who worship the beast and its image and receives a mark…”

                  1.      (v10) “…they will drink the wine of God’s wrath…there is no rest…”

                  2.      God reigns over the principalities and powers of the spiritual world.

Conclusion:  (v14) One like the Son of Man [Daniel 7 view]

The good news and bad.  “The hour to reap has come.”
